The Landesstiftung foundation, formed in 2000 from the former Landesbeteiligungen Baden-Württemberg, promotes various projects of general public benefit linked by the common aim of securing the future capabilities of the State of Baden-Württemberg. Projects in the fields of education, science and research are supported in particular. Initial examples are programmes decided by the Advisory Board for internet and computer competence, research in the field of nutrition, food safety and consumer protection, a photonics center, financial support for vocational education, and the Baden-Württemberg Scholarship. Future and key technologies, human capital, internationalization, media competence, social learning, youth, family and civic commitment are also focal points of the work of the Landesstiftung.
The capital stock of the Landesstiftung allows it to spend annually between 50 and 75 million EUR for supporting measures of general public benefit. The Landesstiftung has the legal form of a non-profit-making limited company (gGmbH), with the State of Baden-Württemberg as the sole shareholder. Its Supervisory Board has 18 members: 9 representatives of the State Parliament (Landtag) of Baden-Württemberg, and 9 representatives of the State Government of Baden-Württemberg. The Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Landesstiftung is Minister-President Günther H. Oettinger.
